Country Strong

Let's talk about the just-released movie “Country Strong” starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw. I am admittedly a bit biased, but I think this is packed with great acting and singing. The story line could be about the struggles of any singer in any genre, though it happens to be a country artist in this feature.

Who knew Gwyneth Paltrow could sing so well? I sure didn't, and not only that, but Leighton Meester, and Garret Hedlund sing their own songs too!

I saw a recent review which mentioned Garrett had taken guitar and singing lessons for the part of Bo. He had to practice quite a bit apparently, but I'd say he did just fine with the part of the hunky young crooner. The only one who doesn't sing in the movie is Tim McGraw!

I was fortunate to attend the Hollywood premiere of “Country Strong” while in Nasvhille for the CMA Awards in November. It was fun to watch the red carpet as the stars rolled in, but also to see all the Nashville artists attend to movie as well. As I stood in the lobby I chatted with Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town. She and hubby/bandmate Jimi Westbrook had a rare date night as parents of an infant.

The highlight of the evening was attending the Hollywood party after the screening. Sure enough,Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Leighton Meester,

Faith Hill, Martina McBride and Tobey Maguire were all there! Tobey (aka Spiderman) was co-producer of the film. I did get to chat with Gwyneth for a moment. She was tall and strikingly beautiful, with a lovely personality.

Make sure you listen for the title track of the movie on Country 102.5!

Gwyneth sings “Country Strong”, one of several tracks she has recorded for the soundtrack, which is selling quite well here in the Boston area.

In fact, this soundtrack is pleasing to every country music fan, young or old, traditional or pop. The “Country Strong” soundtrack is a keeper.  Gwyneth Paltrow can easily add "country singer" to her resume.

Like I said, who knew?
