Backstage vs. Meet and Greet
Posted 8/17/2010 9:47:00 AM
People often ask us what it's like to meet the stars backstage. We are so lucky to have this rare opportunity, I know. It's exciting still, after all these years. And country artists couldn't be any nicer. But I got to thinking how it's definitely changed over the years since my very first backstage experience. I met Garth Brooks in 1992. I was fresh from a nap and an apple juice sippy cup : ). Ok, not quite. But I was green. My friend (Marianne Mooney, former weekend personality) and I were so scared, we were literally shaking. She even cried. We waited in a room backstage. It was quite large and refreshments were lined up on a table.Mr.Brooks entered the room beaming from ear to ear. He genuinely looked excited to see us. He started by saying, "Hi, I'm Garth." As if he had to tell us!! We ...
Social Studies

Twitter, Facebook, MySpace (anyone?), blogs, texts...Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Social
networking is much like the tornado in the movie Wizard of Oz (from which I
lifted the Lions, tigers and bears quote- FYI and LOL). It has come into our
quiet little town and taken us all by storm. "I'll get you my pretty and your
little dog too!" My question is, what if I don't feel like being social? I don't
have a choice anymore, it's part of life. I have been a Facebook hold-out up
until about 2 weeks ago when I caved. Or the Wicked Witch of the West scooped me
up and forced me to social network. There were no flying monkeys, but I felt
scared. I felt like I was giving up something sacred. Privacy. I won't talk
about my exercise routine on FB (be my friend - Carolyn Kruse), I won't tell you
...
Another Great Sports Analogy

We all know about the parellels in life and sports. And after suffering another heartbreaking loss in a very big game, it has become more evident than ever. There is imitation on ice, correlation on the court, and
affinity on the field. This anguish we felt after the Celtics/Lakers game 7 shocking loss brought to mind another game in life. The dating game. When you woke up the morning following game 7,did you feel like you had been punched in the stomache? Did you experience a sense of bitterness, torment, disappointment and despair. Yes, yes, yes and yes! Like the end of a relationship? That's it! That's the analogy. Losing at a peak point, after your endless support, love, time and attention...And that's what we get? Let down. Oh, the heartache! We have felt this quite a bit recently. There was the 2009 Red Sox in the playoffs. The Pats went ...
The Simple Pleasures of Summer
Posted 6/1/2010 3:58:00 PM
Hello Summer! Not officially, I know this much. However, since Memorial Day has come and gone and the white pants are on, so is the summer state of mind. Which brings me to thoughts on the simple pleasures of summer; like the movie Grease, catching a Little League game, sitting outside Sonsie on Newbury Street, taking in sunrise at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham (pictured here), cool cocktails and smokey grills. So many wonderful pleasures. These are a few of my favorite things:
Sunroof open, Phil Vassar's "Six Pack Summer" on the radio, or Kenny Chesney's "Anything But Mine," Keith Urban's "Where the Blacktop Ends," Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" and Deana Carter's "Strawberry Wine." Biking the Blue Hills, walking Hanover Street in the North End, gelato in hand. Ever take in a day game at Fenway in the middle of the work week? Sheer gluttonous joy! Catching ...
Happy BIrthday To Us!

This picture of Reba McEntire was taken in 1993.That is some hair, huh? Okay, I admit it. I, too, had big poofy hair that year. I wore high waisted jeans and I'm sure there was a cinch belt in my closet. I shined my cowboy boots on a regular basis. I listened to cassettes and was in love with Dwight Yoakam. Heck, I even knew a couple of line dances. May 1993, that's when we were born on the 2nd floor of the Salada Tea Building in Boston. They thought we were crazy. Country music in this city? Actually there were 2 country radio stations at the time. A country war embarked and we embraced it! Greater Media's country station debuted at 96.9. We would move several times and change call letters before landing at our current 102.5. And the times...they have been very good to us. Country has ...
