The Sublative™ is a new skin-smoothing treatment that restores a more youthful appearance to the skin. Boston-area dermatologist Thomas Rohrer, MD, from SkinCare Physicians, is one of the nation’s leading experts in both cosmetic and surgical dermatology. As a recognized innovator in the field, he lectures nationally and internationally and is published extensively in a wide variety of dermatological and cosmetic surgery journals. Dr. Rohrer is an expert on laser treatment, cosmetic procedures, injections, fillers and skin cancer.
I spoke to him about Sublative™, asking him to elaborate on the process and its benefits. "The Sublative treatment uses a fractionated radio frequency. It takes radio frequency waves and puts them into the skin using tiny little probes. They don’t break the skin, but they sit on top of the skin. They send the radio frequency wave into the skin and then it traverses in the deeper layers of the skin and comes right back out. What it’s doing is primarily heating up the dermis to try to tighten the skin a little bit, creating tiny little channels on the surface of the skin which will get a little contraction, but also turn the skin over in that area which helps with the pigmentation on the surface. So, you get tightening and improve the texture and tone, all with minimal downtime and great results. We use it primarily for acne scars and fine lines. It also helps with the upper lip. As we age, the skin above the upper lip gets loose and makes the lip look smaller. So we’re using this device to tighten the upper lip. We're getting what looks like more full lips, but in a much more natural way."
