Earth Day celebrates its 42nd birthday on April 22 and Earth Month is commemorated the entire month of April. The origins of Earth Day’s social consciousness date back to the early '60s. Since then, a natural lifestyle approach has gone from the fringe to mainstays in food, fashion and beauty.
People gravitate to natural beauty products with good, “green” reasons that help make a difference on our planet. Organic, vegan and gluten-free products use ingredients that don’t hurt the ecosystem or animals. Many companies making these products limit their environmental impact through the use of recycled and recyclable materials for packaging and shipping materials.
#1 New York Times bestselling author Kim Barnouin, known for her Skinny Bitch books, just released her new book Skinny Bitch Book of Vegan Swaps.
I asked her a couple of questions about her passion:
Q: When it comes to beauty products, why vegan?
A: When I became vegan, I started to realize that there are so many different things that contain animal products, not just food. Being vegan got to be a lifestyle for me and that meant staying away from animal products in beauty products as well as clothing. I am happy with the “greener” and animal-free beauty products. There are many great companies who make beautiful clothing and amazing beauty products.
Q: What vegan products do you recommend?
A: A few of my favorites are from Osea. They have great cleansers and body scrubs. Terra Firma has some good products. Jenulence Alpha Lipoic Acid Antioxidant Serum is amazing. I love ZuZu Luxe’s mascara and lipsticks, and Erth Mineral’s eye shadows are beautiful.
There are many companies who choose the natural route:
