In the midst of the months we longed for all winter. The season we so strongly desired to spring into during the chillier, wetter days of spring. Don't Blink! (Kenny Chesney). The great anticipation of the days that preceded summer only make these months move much to swiftly. Can we get a pause on this play? Settle for a Slowdown? (Dierks Bentley) Time out, please Mr. Referee! I did manage a few slothful summer moments and I highly recommend it. One hot day in July. I found myself alone, on the porch. Nothing to do. No where to go. No one around. Just me, sitting with a cool summer concoction watching traffic go by. The beach parking lot to my right, the road to my left. Heaven. We often forget to just do nothing every once in a while. In our crazy, busy, overscheduled lives we just need ...

Holding My Breath

Waiting to exhale...Tonight is the night. We've waited for so long. Game 7 Stanley Cup Finals. Bruins. Canucks. It doesn't get any better than this for sports fans. I know we've been here before in other sports recently, and ad nauseam to those outside of our winning city. We are spoiled, but I don't care. I want this win. We all want it. We want it for the game of hockey. We want it for injured Nathan Horton. We want it for long suffering Bruins fans. We want it for the players who've worked so hard to get here. For Tim Thomas, who rightly deserves the MVP-ship. We want it for the sheer joy of holding our breath in anticipation, waiting to exhale in exaltation.

Go Bruins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A New Idol Is Crowned

And the winner is...Country music! The 2011 American Idol has been crowned. And this year began with likely the most eclectic mix of young artists and styles. But in the end, it was all country. Lauren and Scotty...both from the South, both influenced by country music, battled it out for the winner- doesn't -always-take- all competition. Sometimes it's the "could have beens" who manage to bring home the bacon. Hello Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, and Adam Lambert. Josh Turner sound-a-like Scotty McCreery may have won the title, but we may be hearing runner-up Lauren Alaina on the radio as soon as Scotty. And maybe even together!

Country Came to Town and Conquered!

I'm here to share some very good news with you. After 18 years, various dial positions and call letters, this radio station you choose to listen to, is at the top of it's game! Like TV, radio lives and dies by the ratings. And the ratings are good, my friend. Very good. And so...we live! We live to play another Kenny Chesney song. We live to give away more concert tickets, to make more friends on facebook, to tweet to our peeps and talk to the stars. Thank you for supporting us by simply listening. I will celebrate my 18th year here next month. (Yes, I was in grade school when I got hired ; ) ) It's been a wild ride and I'm so glad I stayed in it, to watch us win it! Cheers to you and to us!

Play Ball!

Here we go. Bring it on! The season. It's been a long, cold winter and if we ever deserved a Spring with superstars, swagger, substance and stimulation...it's this Spring! The red hot Red Sox have me feeling like a kid at Christmas who has been given way too many gifts. Glutenous? Yes! Spoiled? Absolutely. We are hoarders of talent in Boston this year. And I like it like that. GO SOX. 2011 feels mighty fine.

American Idol Hangs On

Nearly a year ago, I blogged about the impending season 10 of American Idol and what would happen when Simon Cowell left the building. Just as I had anticipated it has survived. In that blog from 3/30/2010 I mentioned that perhaps, like a good song...it would live on. No matter who was singing it. Good product, is good product. And so now many weeks into the new season, with the new look and new judges...It is thriving. The addition of Steven Tyler, in particular, seems to have been a wise choice. He is entertaining, and like Paula before him...the wild card. The train wreck waiting to happen. He is fun to watch, edgey and a loose cannon. The ratings are up from a year ago. Remeber Lee Dewyze, anyone? It has survived the great loss of the great crank himself, Mr Cowell. Although, I do miss his honesty. There's seems to be a ...

The Winter of Our Discontent

The good news is we are getting really good at shoveling. Bending the knees, using our legs, instead of our backs. We are getting excellent usage out of all our hats and mittens, snow boots and snowblowers. But have you ever heard so much expressed discontent! "It's only January!" "We have no where to put the snow...there's no where to park." "I can't take another day off to be home with my kids for a snow day from school." I'm right there with you, complaining all the way. I feel cooped up. Cabin fever is a terrible illness. And what about all the cute shoes I can't where for months! I've seen all the "on demand" movies I wanted to. I can't reach the top of my SUV to brush it off. Ice ice baby...is a great way to break a hip. I'm sure there are a hundred more complaints ...

Now what?

Here we stand, mere deflated versions of our former super-selves.The trimmings have been stored away. The halls no longer decked. The cookie jar is empty. No rush to go shopping. No boxes in need of wrapping. What ever will we do with our free time after the hustle and bustle of the holidays? Got it! Pay those bills and lose those extra pounds! We have that to keep us busy all winter long. Good luck and Happy New Year to you and your family.

Good TImes/Great Cause!

If you came to see any of the Country 102.5 "Rockin' Country Music Series" shows at the Hard Rock in Boston this year, good for you! You undoubtely had a great time and simultaneously gave to a virtuous cause. Your donation to get in went to the Fisher House Boston. Read all about it here: www.fisherhouseboston.org.

The Fisher House just opened locally in West Roxbury and is providing housing to families who's loved ones, serving in the military, are patients at the V.A. Hospital. Families are able to spend time with the patients, providing support and love during their stay. Hug yourself. You did a great thing.

And what a rockin' good time you had, doing a great thing. The talent was amazing. The price, more than right. And the crowds were passionate. Thanks to the artists who performed, The Hard Rock for providing the stage, and those of you who ...

Along For The Ride

Stuff like this doesn't just fall into your lap everyday. Last week, I had an incredible, once in a life time opportunity presented to me. I was asked to go to NYC to meet up with our grand prize Total Taylor Experience winner, Michelle Mendez of Malden, and fly across the country with Taylor Swift. No brainer. For me, it was essentially 24 hours of traveling and the chance to interview the biggest star in the world right now. For our winner Michelle, it was about 5 days of following Ms. Swift on her publicity tour: From the Today Show to the Letterman Show to a live concert in New York...the flight across country to LA, to attending the Ellen Show and seeing the sights in Hollywood. Wipe the sweat from your brow. This is hard work.
