When I was growing up in Connecticut, I had one goal in my life...to be a singer and to hear myself on the radio! I loved listening to the radio and I memorized the lyrics to every song. I used to perform in front of a big mirror in my bedroom with my dolls and stuffed animals lined up to watch me. I was a real ham! I sang with the national group "Up With People" when i was in grade school and peformed in talent shows in high school.
While a student at Boston College, I sang in coffeehouses and small clubs. I used to sing songs like "Desperado," "Landslide," and "Poor , Poor Pitiful Me." I own every Linda Ronstadt and Patsy Cline album. My mom died of breast cancer when I was 18 and I'm the only child of divorced parents, so my college years were tough. I graduated from Boston College with an honors degree in English and then married young. I have two children-Christopher and Colleen-and they share equally owning every piece of my heart. Throughout their childhood I fronted a five piece band called "Stage Unlimited." I landed two "Star Search" auditions and created a tape for pre-schoolers called "Little Voices." Throughout the '80s and '90s I sang jingles on the radio for advertisers like Colombo Yogurt and Great Bear Spring Water. I've even sung the National Anthem at the Fleet Center 3 times! Currently I'm the voice of a radio show aboard all American Airlines flights called "Connected" and I am the president of the American Women in Radio and Television/New England.
When I became a single mom I was forced to ask myself "How can I turn my talents into a full-time job to support my family?" Radio was the answer! I have loved every minute of my nine years at the Greater Boston Radio Group. What many people don't realize is that I've been on WKLB since the very first day the station was launched in 1993 as WBCS. Yes, that was me using fake name: Christy Grace!
