Eye Can Do It

MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack

Melanie gives us the lowdown on applying liquid/gel/cream eyeliner:

Liquid and gel liners really do take a little patience and practice! My fave go-to gel liner is MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack. I think it's the smoothest, the most pigmented and it’s not dry or cakey. I also love the color range!

Use a pointy, slim eyeliner brush and dip it into the eyeliner. On the back of your hand, roll the brush to make sure you don't have any balls of product that could cause a bump on the line you are trying to create.

Start at the tear duct on the upper lash line. Look slightly down and away from your nose. This will allow you to get as smooth a surface of skin as possible. The trick is to try to master a quick, clean swipe. As you travel from the tear duct to the outer end of the eye, look down towards your nose to get smooth skin again for that part of eye. You can swoop up for a cat eye. To make it thicker, you can go on top of the line you already created or start at the middle and make it thicker for the outer end only.

The options are limitless. Practice makes perfect! I love the gel liner for inside the waterline, as well. It lasts longer than a pencil and is darker.

Revlon Colorstay Creme Gel Eyeliner

There are pre-dipped pens as well. Lancôme has some great pens. They are stiffer than a brush, so you don't have as much control. Laura Mercier has a great cake liner, too. Spritz the cake with water and use an eyeliner brush as described above.

Use Melanie’s techniques with some of these:
