Foods That Fight Fat

Wouldn’t it be great if you could actually eat to lose weight? Well, guess what, folks: there are actually foods that actively burn your fat and help you lose weight. It doesn’t matter that these foods have calories of their own—their chemical impact once digested targets body fat and works to reduce it. And no worries, I’m not talking about fruits and vegetables (though they are among the best fat-busting foods out there).

Fat-burning FoodsCheck out the top five foods below and make sure to integrate them into your daily calorie intake. These foods, coupled with strength training, are your two best friends when trying to take off those extra pounds.

Eggs

Despite conflicting reports about cholesterol in eggs, this food is a nutritional powerhouse. Eggs are loaded with protein, omega 3s and other important nutrients, and they keep you feeling full longer. Much of the nutritional value is in the yolk, so don’t skip it unless you have an issue with cholesterol.

Tip: Use olive oil when cooking your eggs at medium heat to get your daily supply of the great health benefits of olive oil.

Dark chocolate

According to research from the University of Copenhagen, eating an ounce of dark chocolate will help you to eat less at your next meal. Dark chocolate is also loaded with cancer-fighting antioxidents, so indulge guilt-free!

Tip: Be sure to limit your serving size to an ounce.

Cheese

Everybody loves cheese, and while it is easy to over-indulge on cheese, there are healthier types that actually help you burn fat and make you feel full. Look for fresh goat cheese or feta for a healthy dose of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Also, whenever possible, choose organic or imported cheese, which is made from grass-fed animals that are not injected with hormones or antibiotics. This cheese contains higher levels of CLA, which directly helps you to burn fat.

Tip: Stay away from anything labeled “cheese food,” including American cheese—it’s nothing but a processed, cheese-flavored substance that is plain bad for you.

Greek yogurt

Thank God for the introduction of Greek yogurt over the past few years. This creamy, thick yogurt offers a great alternative to the traditional yogurt we’ve been choking down for years. In addition to its wonderful texture, Greek yogurt makes you feel fuller because it has a much higher content of protein. There are now several brands available, but my personal favorite is Chobani.

Tip: Try out the various brands until you find the one you like most. As an added nutritional bonus, look for organic Greek yogurt, which is about as healthy as you can get while still tasting great.

Ice cold water

You’re not going to believe this, but it’s true: if you drink 8-10 glasses of ice cold water a day, you will burn 250 to 500 calories! The colder the water is, the more your body has to work to heat the water back up to your normal body temperature, so it’s actually burning calories in that process.
